Obituary of Joseph Benson

Tucson - Joseph (Joe) Benson, 69, passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, January 14, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones. Celebration of life services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, January 27, at Sanctuary Cove 8001 N Scenic Dr. Tucson, AZ 85743 with Reverend Wendy Guyton presiding. Reception to follow at 2pm at Growler's Taphouse. Additional services to be held in Plains, Montana, date and location to be determined. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lissa Benson; His son Barry Benson and his wife Marissa Benson; his son Cody Benson; his daughter Tianna Benson; his sister Kandy Veller; his stepbrother Howard Martin; his stepsister Rosanne Haugen; and many dear friends. Joe Benson is preceded in death by his parents Barry and Anne Benson, and Charlette Benson. Born in Missoula, Montana and raised in nearby Plains, Montana, Joe's childhood was spent largely outdoors, enjoying all that the Montana countryside had to offer. Joe graduated from Plains High School in 1966 and began working in the local sawmill, beginning a career of hard work that would lead him to becoming an operator in the Operating Engineers Local 400. In the spring of 1982 Joe Benson met a charming waitress by the name of Lissa, and by November 12th of 1983 they were married. Joe and Lissa eventually moved to Billings, Montana where they raised their 3 children Barry, Cody, and Tianna. In the fall of 1998 the family relocated to Tucson, Arizona where Joe would spend the rest of his career working for Granite construction. He retired from Granite construction in June of 2015. Joe enjoyed his retirement travelling with his wife Lissa, and making new friends everywhere he went.
