Obituary of Ralph T. Dawson

Ralph T. Dawson passed away peacefully on August 12, 2020, at the age of 91, after a long battle with cancer.

            A native of Michigan, Ralph has called Tucson, AZ home for the last 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janet; siblings: Jim and Lucille; children: Judy Coleman, Amy Penzenik (spouse George), Carla Gutman, and Wayde Gutman (spouse Christi Lee); grandchildren: Dana Herrera (spouse Ulysses) and Chase Wedge.

            A veteran of the US Navy, Ralph worked for UCSD as an electronic technician for 18 years. He worked on many space-related projects for UCSD, including the Pioneer 10 space probe, NASA’s first mission to Jupiter.

            His songs could light up a room, he could fix nearly everything, and his heart was present in all that he did; a man of great composure and wit, he will be truly missed by all whom had the pleasure and privilege of knowing him.

            At Ralph’s own request, services will be private. Donations in his honor can be made to: The International Myeloma Foundation, or The American Cancer Society.
