Joe Castillo

Obituary of Joe G. Castillo

Joe G. Castillo, 93, of Tucson Arizona passed away, January 19, 2021.  Joe was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Maria, brothers Ernesto and Gerardo, sisters Lola, Lupe and Lollie.  Joe is survived by his wife Olga, the children they shared Oscar, Maria (Luis), Theresa (Adam) and his children Lydia (Jim), Joey (Frances), Debbie, David (Helene), Esther (Cecil), along with many grandkids, and great grandkids.  He was dearly loved by his nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends.

Joe was born on March 30, 1927 in Tucson Arizona, to Jose Maria Castillo and Maria Garcia.  Joe enlisted in the Army/Air Force in 1945 and was part of the 830th Medical Air Evacuation Transport Squadron.  The 830th Squadron made a number of round trips daily to remote airstrips near the front lines in the South Pacific to evacuate the sick & wounded.  Joe enjoyed sports and coached his City League softball team to 5 straight championships, something he would brag about often.  Joe loved the Lord and accepted Jesus as his personal savior in 1950.  He went on spending most of his life preaching, teaching, and giving bible studies.  Joe was known for his charismatic personality.  He was also known for his ability to joke around and make people laugh.  He will be greatly missed.

Joe’s family would like to thank the wonderful and amazing staff at Devon Gables.  Joe seemed invincible, as he had been resilient in fighting for his health for many years, but COVID-19 took him within 4 days of testing positive.  The staff at Devon Gables cared, loved and spoiled Joe daily, which he completely loved.  In his final days, when the family could not be with Joe due to COVID, his Devon Gables family provided outstanding care.  They held his hand, caressed him, and provided support until the very end.  We are forever grateful and their love will never be forgotten.
