Obituary of Max Hunter Whittington

Max Hunter Whittington, 88, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2021, at his home after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Mr. Whittington was born on April 9, 1933, in Zepp, Virginia, to Elwood Whittington and Freida (Orndorff) Whittington, the oldest of 11 children. He worked various jobs through the years and in his free time enjoyed hunting and fishing. After moving to Iowa and later retiring in Arizona, he did more woodworking, including home remodeling, furniture, models and toys.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 49 years and caregiver the last two years, Shirley, and their daughters, Lisa (Joel) Goldstone, and Jaime (Mark) Rusche. Four surviving children from his first marriage to Dolly Drummonds; Brenda Pedersen, Karen (James) Whitestone, Ricky (Carolyn) Whittington, and Randy Whittington; a sister, Eva (Stanley) Wallace, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by a son, James Dean Whittington; a grandson, Robert Neil Young; and nine brothers and sisters.
