I worked for Dr. Dutt sometime around 1969-1971 as a chemist, analyzing soil and water samples from all over Arizona. But before starting each day, my job was to call the local meteorologist and get the forecast for the weather. I would plug the numbers into a rudimentary computer programmed by a magnetic card, and it would print out the thermals for the day. I would give the report to Dr. Dutt, and if the thermals looked really good, he would leave immediately and I wouldn't see him the rest of the day. Of course he was soaring, his favorite sport, and he held the record for altitude. He was particularly proud of a framed article about his son becoming the youngest glider pilot at the time, with a photo of him cutting off his son's shirt tail, which was a custom for new glider pilots. He was a wonderful fellow to work with and he relied a great deal on his assistant, Ted. My tenure predated his involvement with vineyards and wineries, and I would like to think perhaps some of my analyses were useful in that regard. My best regards to his family. You can be proud of his life and his legacy. Sincerely, Sandra Smith Eberhardt

I worked for Dr Dutt in 1979 as a grad student. I was one of several students who wound up doing field labor in his test vineyards of the time in Sierra Vista, Oracle Junction, and Sonoita. However, I was going through a difficult time in my life at the time and failed to complete my Masters. Later, though, I came back to U of A in the mid 80's and completed a BS in Electrical Engineering.
Dr. Dutt was a very kind and understanding professor and employer. He had a warm and eccentric wit about him that I remember well. I am sure he is greatly missed by his family and friends. I am glad to see that he made it to 91 yearsof age before passing. My own mother died in 2021 as well at 94 years. There is much to be said for long lives well lived.
God bless his kind memory--and my mother's as well--and his family....
