My heart is so heavy today as I’m just now learning of Tony’s passing. I recently spoke to him and he told me he had turned a corner. Perhaps this was just another example of one of the many things I admired about him- his relentless positivity.
In this same conversation, Tony was trying to talk me into a leadership position within the community (for which I’m not qualified). But that was Tony; the constant supporter and cheerleader. Tony was a loyal friend and always saw the best in others. I first met him in 2012 at KVOA. I always admired his integrity, hard-work, and the love he had for his family. He would do anything for a friend. He’s the kind of person you would want in your corner. The world lost a very special person. To his family and other close friends, I am so sorry for you loss. Tony loved you fiercely.

Met Tony at Morton Grove PD. Starting playing basketball with him & formed a team on Sunday mornings along with his brother Eduardo. We won a championship as part of that team together. A very fond memory for me.. Tony was always the positive one. . Inspiring his teammates no matter the siruation was. Even just recently speaking with Tony on his battle with cancer. It was never woe is me or feel sorry for me. Tony would say to me "I can handle the next treatment or surgery." Always positive and very heroic. It's a same that he was taken from us so soon, but I know he is in a peaceful, pain free, disease free place. Knowing Tony he is probably challenging the big guy to a game of one on one. REST IN PEACE MY BROTHER. Mike
