Obituary of Beverly Ann Grosh

Beverly Ann Grosh

June 6, 1952–May 27, 2022

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of Beverly Ann Grosh, 69, of Tucson, Arizona on May 27, 2022, after a courageous battle with Lewy-Body Disease.

Bev was born June 6, 1952, to Lillian and Lloyd Smith of Portland, Maine. After graduating from Fryeburg Academy in 1970, she married James (Jim) R. Grosh who was stationed with the Air Force at Pease AFB, NH. She was a proud Military wife for 20 years taking in stride numerous moves across the U.S. and two separate tours to England as well as the many challenges of military life. She was the proud mother of Gannon Grosh and Elisabeth (Beth) Grosh. She was also very active as a volunteer with base activities, culminating in being awarded the Joan Orr Air Force Spouse of the Year. She was a leader among her many friends and always seemed to know what to do in any situation. She was nick-named “Motherly” by dear friends.

In 1990 after the sudden passing of her husband Jim, she found herself starting a new life with her two teenaged children. Bev and her children packed up their Wyoming home and relocated to Indiana to be near family. Through mutual friends, she met Robert (Butch) Smith. They fell in love, married, and relocated to Arizona. They went on many adventures together traveling all over the U.S. They enjoyed motorcycle trips, camping, and making new friends. Bev enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, crafts, and spotting bargains while shopping; she was quick-witted and had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a twinkle in her eye! In her later years, she loved swimming at the local pool with a group of special lady friends.

Her greatest joy, however, was her family. Not only did she have her two children plus three grandchildren, but she also loved Butch’s two daughters and six grandchildren as her own. She was thrilled when her first great granddaughter was born in 2021. Bev cherished every moment she was able

to spend with all her family and had a special talent for making every occasion extra special.

Bev will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband, Robert (Butch) Smith of Tucson, AZ; son Gannon Grosh (Stacey) of Mt. Summit, IN; daughters Beth Grosh of Tucson, AZ; Stacy Smith of Tucson, AZ; and Shannon Smith of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren: Cassandra Grosh (Travis Freehill) of Shelby, NC; Madeline Grosh (Dylan Query) of Indianapolis, IN; Atticus Grosh of Mt. Summit, IN; Nicolas Capanear of Benson, AZ; Gabriel (Tatum) Capanear of Tucson, AZ; Samuel (Nicholas) Smith of Rogers, AR; Johnny Estrada of Tucson, AZ; Mia Valadez of Tucson, AZ; and Felicity Tarr of St. George, UT; great-granddaughter: Teddi Freehill of Shelby, NC; brother, Eric Smith of Virginia Beach, VA; life-long friends: Brian and Sherri Hamilton of Knob Noster, MO; and beloved dog Ginger. She was predeceased by husband Jim Grosh, parents Lillian and Lloyd Smith, and brothers Frankie Smith and Duane Smith.
