Linda Wostenberg

Obituary of Linda Katherine Wostenberg

Born in Roy, NM in 1940 Linda Wostenberg (nee Scheier) is survived by her sister, Marylyn Wilcoxson her husband Jim, her four children: Bill Wostenberg (Janice) of Cypress, CA; Teresa Osborne (Dale) of Tucson, AZ; Mary Menke (Jerry) of Fountain Valley, CA; and Dave Wostenberg of Yuma, AZ, 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She met the love of her life, Jim, at a dance. It did not take long for her to know that this dashing young navy sailor was the one with whom she wanted to spend the rest of her life. They happily married on November 23, 1957. A loving mother, she put family first in all things. She took joy in her family with even the smallest things, often sacrificing herself to provide whatever she could for those she loved. From her time as magazine distribution employee to the manager at California Mortgage Banking to her time spent teaching her grandchildren all about cooking, sewing or card games, she gave fully of herself.  She looked forward to each holiday and ensured that family felt welcome and comfortable. She loved to decorate for the grandchildren, putting up exciting decorations for each holiday, accompanied with our favorite holiday foods.

As a couple, they enjoyed their latter years traveling the United States to visit historical sites. One could see Linda pouring over maps and guides weeks before the trip to plan each detail to get the most out of the road trips. Often, the grandchildren were invited to share these trips with them. Financially savvy, this amateur stock trader found her niche during her retirement years. She traded stocks with an alacrity that would impress even a Wall Street professional. An avid reader, she also passed along her love of reading and encouraged many of the younger generations to embark on the many adventures that lie hidden in the pages of each book. Her keen sense of humor and wit remained with her even to the very end when she could only communicate by writing. She requested water in writing and then quipped “You know its bad when I ask for water. Ha ha.” She passed peacefully on March 22, 2024 surrounded by family.
