Our goal is to create exceptional services and experiences that fulfill the wishes of your loved one. Our experienced Funeral Directors provide guidance on the crucial first steps toward healing.

Sarah Johnson
Location Leader & Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer

Sarah feels lucky to have grown up in a small town in central Kansas where she learned the importance of kindness and hard work. In 2005, she felt called to serve her community and enrolled at Kansas City Kansas Community College where she earned her Mortuary Science degree with honors. Sarah served as a Funeral Director and Embalmer in the Kansas City area before moving to Tucson, Arizona in 2011. She has been with our family of funeral homes since her move to Tucson and has been at Desert Sunset Funeral Home since 2018. In 2020, Sarah became the Location Leader for Desert Sunset Funeral Home. She is honored to assist families with planning tributes for their loved ones that are most meaningful and appropriate for their individual needs.

Outside of work she and her husband, Mark, spend much of their free time working out, painting, cooking, and enjoying the outdoors with their two dogs. Sarah also holds a great appreciation for music and concert going and she has seen well over 200 bands perform live. After high school her son, Gage, decided to escape the heat and move to the Pacific Northwest. Having always been fond of the area herself, Sarah has enjoyed having such a great reason to visit more often.

Sean Gillian
Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer

Sean is a fully licensed mortician. He holds licenses for funeral directing, embalming and cremations in the states of Arizona and California. He is a graduate of the Mortuary Science Program at Cypress College in Orange County, CA. Being well rounded in the above mentioned funeral services, Sean has found that working directly with families while providing guidance and counseling is where he feels most comfortable and rewarded.

Sean considers himself both a native of Southern California and Tucson, Arizona. His childhood, from the age of three to twelve, was experienced under the warm California sun, while his teen years into adulthood were embraced within the beautiful desert landscapes of Tucson.

Aside from his career loves, Sean is a self-proclaimed film fanatic and critic; an avid reader of classic literature and horror fiction; and as well as being a walking encyclopedia of pop culture trivia. He has an unabashed devotion towards punk rock, heavy metal and electronic music with the latter being accompanied by an ongoing hobby of being a DJ.

Away from work, Sean shares his love of life with his beautiful wife Gaby (also a practicing mortician) and their three crazy cats Lola, Buddy and Lil’ Ash, all of whom make each day shine ever so brightly.

Scott Umphrey
Administrative Assistant

Scott Umphrey is new to the funeral industry but has made it his commitment to be compassionate and helpful.  In 2017, he moved to Tucson for a change of scenery from Northeast Indiana.  He has worked in the customer service industry for close to 20 years and is looking forward to bringing his expertise to Desert Sunset.

During his free time, he enjoys reading, cooking, board games, and writing.  He has happily built a life in Tucson and is proud to call it home.  He hopes to expand his myriad hobbies to include volunteer work around the city and to enjoying all the surrounding environs.  Travel is also one of his goals, as he hopes to visit the likes of France, Germany, Scotland, Ireland, and Tokyo.
