Obituary of Alva Leroy Cox

ALVA LEROY COX MAY 16, 1920 - NOV 11, 2008 Alva, a World War II veteran & former 19th District Commander of Veterans Foreign Wars (VFW), passed away at the age of 88 on Veterans Day, November 11, 2008. He joined his wife of 59 years, Beverly, his parents, Clarence & Stella Cox, his brothers, Oren & Walter, his daughter, Priscilla Fritsche, his grandson, Dion Fritsche & his veteran friends who preceded him. Born on May 16, 1920 in Shelton, NE, he lived in Sidney, NE, Herlong, CA., Hollywood, FL, Escalon, CA, Weatherford, TX, San Rafael, CA, and Tucson, AZ. Alva is survived by his children, David & Sandy Cox of Escalon, CA., Douglas & Rachel Cox of Tucson, AZ, Elaine Weaver of Weatherford, TX, and Marcella & Ed McLam of Vancouver, WA; his grand children, Eric & Windy Cox, Leslie & Brian Heavey, Trent Fritsche, Troy & Amy Fritsche, Alexander Cox, Amber Cox, Zachary and Kareen Weaver, Clay & Kiersten Weaver, Trevor McLam and Blake McLam; his great grandchildren, Priscilla & Tiffany Fritsche, Dion & Joshua Fritsche, Emily, Seth & Caleb Fritsche, Kaylen & Talin Weaver, Connor & Taryn Weaver, Asher Cox & Brendan Heavey. Our Grandpa Cox, our big teddy bear, is dearly loved and will be greatly missed. His family thanks his friends and the staff at Life Care Center in Tucson, AZ for the love and support they provided. Flowers and flag were placed at Mt. Soledad in San Diego, CA to honor him and his friends on Veterans Day. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 21st at 1:00 p.m. at Desert Sunset Funeral Home, 3081 W. Orange Grove Rd., Tucson AZ. His remains will be laid to rest together with his wife at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, 1800 Cabrillo Memorial Dr., in San Diego, CA on Friday, December 12th at 2:00 p.m. with Military Honors.
