Obituary of Ruth Elizabeth Bemis

Ruth Elizabeth Bemis Our beloved Mom went to Heaven to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 22, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, N.H. "Red" Bemis just two months ago. Her death resulted from lung and heart complications. She was born on a farm in Golden, Illinois on September 22, 1921. She talked often of all the fun that her three brothers and two sisters had working on her Schone family farm. After graduating from high school in 1939, she attended beauty school and became a hairdresser. Towards the end of World War II, Mom and a girlfriend came to Tucson to visit her brother, (our Uncle Johnny) who was stationed here as a fighter pilot. She really liked Tucson, and a few years later after marrying our Dad in 1947, convinced him to move here from Illinois in 1952. Mom's life was characterized by her service, love and commitment to her family. Building her life around her family, she devoted all of her time to her husband and two sons, Steve and Dick J. As Dad started the "Red's Beauty Supply" in 1964, Mom was instrumental in the success of the business. She was the bookkeeper, receptionist, store salesman and basically the operations manager. Yet, with all the work in running the business, she always put our family first and as her most important priority. Her daughters-in-law, Lydia and Liz were very special to her and they shared numerous memorable times playing cards, and just laughing together as she loved them dearly. Then as the grandchildren, Stephanie (married to Phil Plimpton), Lola, and Joey were born, Mom spent countless hours babysitting, watching them in sporting events, and enjoying camping and fishing trips with them. Mom's passion for cooking was especially evident at each family get together. She poured her love into these meals, and in these last two years as she took care of our Dad, she was so filled with joy watching her great-grandson, Isaac laugh and have fun at these family gatherings. Mom, we will always cherish the memories we have of you and your devotion you showed us. Thank you for being such a great Mom, Wife, Grandma and Great-Grandmother! Your legacy of Love, Thoughtfulness, and Faith in Jesus will live on in our family forever! We Love You and will miss you so much! Visitation and Funeral Service will be on Friday, February 27, 2009 starting at 12:00 noon with the Funeral to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Community Church located at 2551 W. Orange Grove. Burial immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery.
