Obituary of Fern Barnstead Heinrich

Fern Barnstead Heinrich of Tucson, Arizona gently passed away on May 1, 2009 after an extended illness. Fern was born on August 2, 1918 in Chicago, Illinois to Caroline Belle (nee Kerr) and Franklin Stewart Barnstead. She graduated from Waller High School where she met her husband of 46 years, Jacob J. (Jack) Heinrich. She worked as an accountant in Chicago before and after her marriage in 1942. With the arrival of her daughter, she stopped working and volunteered extensively with the Girl Scouts and her church, St. Gregory the Great, and it's affiliated schools. During this period she also enjoyed her many hobbies of sewing, knitting, reading, theater, dancing and art. Fern returned to accounting in the 1960's and continued to work until her retirement in 1989. When her health declined in 1999, she relocated to Santa Catalina Villas in Tucson to be with her daughter. She has resided in this retirement community and it's increased care facility La Rosa, until March 2009 when she transferred to Kanmar Place of Casa de la Luz Hospice. Fern was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Charles Edward and Franklin Stewart Barnstead; sister, Alice Green; nephew, Aubrey Green, Jr. and her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Carol H. Murphy; nieces and nephews John, Joseph and James Kunzer, Timothy and Margaret Heinrich, Steven Barnstead, Susan Schmidt, Allan and Thomas Green and godchild, Melissa Bakes. Burial is in the family plot at Ridgewood Memorial Park, 9900 N. Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines, Illinois.
