Walter (Bill) Opanowicz Family posted a condolence

My wife Patricia and Pia were childhood friends. That friendship would last a lifetime. Pia, her husband Bill, Pat and I did a fair amount of traveling together and especially to the Bahamas during the Michigan winter months. The long weekend trips were a welcome break in our daily work routines. We were members of the Nomads Travel Club based in Detroit, Michigan. I can remember on one occasion on the island of Eleuthera, an out island in the Bahamas, attending Catholic Mass on Sunday in a one room building with window openings on the side walls without glass in the window framing. Much to my amazement, several families, native to the island, greeted Pia at the church doorway. She knew their names and they knew hers as though they were long time friends.
This is just one example of how genuine Pia was with the people she met. Everyone she came in contact with liked Pia. She had a way about her that immediately made you feel comfortable and at ease. She was generous with her time and truly the kindest person with a big heart. No matter how much time passed between visits after we all retired and lived in different parts of the country, she was always so happy to see you and catch up and hear about what everyone was up to in the family. Pia was loved by our entire family and she will be greatly missed. Pia and Bill were not only life long friends but family to Pat and I and our three daughters. Pia and Bill are together now and our memories of all the times we shared with them will always make us smile.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Walter (Bill) Opanowicz Family
