Obituary of Fred H. Plotner

PLOTNER, Fred H, died peacefully at home on October 27, 2009. He was born March 20, 1923, in Crosby, MN, to Fred H. and Eva K. Plotner. After his father died when Fred was four years old, his mother raised him and his sister in Tioga, ND, then moved to Boston, MA, when Fred was 15. Fred graduated from Boston's English High and soon enlisted in the Navy, where he served three years during WW II. After studying at Northeastern University and Boston Architectural Institute, he began work as a general contractor in the Boston area. There he married Gladys Bates. They enjoyed 61 years together. In 1980, Fred and the family remaining at home moved to Tucson, AZ, to continue his contracting business in a new setting. Fred held leadership positions in his churches in Boston and in Tucson. He sought to encourage the pastors of his churches with prayer, advice and practical help. Desiring to serve God, he gave much professional expertise, time and labor to church building projects. Survivors include his wife; five sons; six daughters; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sister, Ruth Freytag; one niece; one nephew; and one grand-nephew. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2010, at Journey Evangelical Free Church, 4700 N. Swan Road in Tucson. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missions program at Journey EFC. Arrangements entrusted to DESERT SUNSET CATALINA, 818-0038.
