Obituary of David Bumbaco

David Bumbaco, 76, left us on Thursday, February 28, 2019. He was born on June 29, 1942, in Englewood, New Jersey to Michael S. and Edna R. (Fluke) Bumbaco. David is survived by his wife, Audrey Schumann. They just celebrated 16 years together. David is also survived by his children; David Bumbaco, Patricia Bumbaco Hernandez, Karen DePalma, Charlene (Brian) Slezak, and Teresa (Gary) Teresi. He had six grandchildren, Michael, Melissa, Giovanni, Maritza, Travis, and Jonathan. He was predeceased by his mother and father, and four siblings, Mike, John, Evelyn, and Edward Bumbaco. Dave was quite an accomplished guy. He was a lifelong mechanic, an engine builder and an engine tuner. He loved to drag race, street and strip. He served as a police officer in Englewood, New Jersey for 10 years, started the SWAT team and was the firearms instructor. He was well versed in firearms, and an excellent gunsmith. He also was an inventor and had a patent on one of his tools. He loved to go fast, be it street racing around northern New Jersey, or a high-speed chase in the patrol car. He was a very good guitar picker and singer of old country music, especially outlaw country. He got a $4 guitar from one of his brothers when he was eight, and never put it down. Dave was a larger than life kind of guy, and he was undoubtably one of the most generous people you could ever meet. He would help anyone in need and try to feed everyone in sight. He was a true workaholic, he never retired and had a few engines he still wanted to build. Dave was a fighter, and never saw an obstacle that would stop him. He left our world very quickly and peacefully at home after receiving the news that the cancer he so fiercely battled had spread. Remembrance will be held Friday, March 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Desert Sunset Funeral Home, 3081 W. Orange Grove Road.
