Obituary of Jean Marilyn Sievers

SIEVERS, Jean Marilyn, a devoted mother, grandmother and friend, with a heart filled with love and compassion passed away March 8, 2010. She never let her illness defeat her spirit, silence her laughter, or alter her positive attitude towards life. She enjoyed golf and bowling for many years, and when no longer able to play, turned to Bingo, Blackjack and Bridge. Born on May 29, 1926 in Fargo, North Dakota, Jean touched the hearts of everyone she met. She received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa, where she became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and was just recently recognized for 65 years of service to the organization. Her distinguished editorial career included work for the Index Nominum Genericorum Project of the Smithsonian Institution and for the scientific journal, "Transactions of the American Microscopical Society". She was a resident of Oro Valley and a member of Oro Valley Country Club for over 30 years. Jean provided invaluable service to her community throughout the years, volunteering for organizations including the American Heart Association, Girl Scouts of America, Boy Scouts of America and as a member of Chapter BN, P.E.O. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; daughter, Nancy; son, John and her parents. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her daughter, Suzanne Boyd and her husband, Jay of Albuquerque, NM; her daughter, Sharon Volak and her husband, Tom of Scottsdale, AZ; her grandchildren, Stephanie Gehres and her husband, Shaun; Edward Boyd, Catelin Sievers, Hilary Sievers; her great-grandchildren, Kellan and Kai Gehres and Karina Boyd; her sister, Janet Grant and her husband, Bud of Lake Forest, CA; nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. Remembrances may be given to the American Lung Association and the Casa de la Luz Hospice, Tucson, AZ. Arrangements will be private. Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 22, 2010 at Pusch Ridge Christian Church, Tucson, AZ.
