Jane Kretschmann

Obituary of Jane Wilson Kretschmann

Jane (“Janie”) Wilson Kretschmann, 80, of Tucson, Arizona passed away on September 14, 2023.  She was born to parents John Wilson and Jane Long Wilson on July 19, 1943 in Oswego, NY. Jane graduated from SUNY College of Oswego in 1966 and received her Bachelor of Science. She was active for many years as a certified teacher in New York State. Jane found it very gratifying teaching her young students to read. Jane later completed the Education for Ministry Certificate of Theology at Sewanee University of the South, exploring both Christian traditions and lay ministry.

Jane married Clair Kretschmann on October 10, 1969 and they lived in Utica, NY then Poland, NY until 2001. As teachers, Jane and Clair enjoyed exploring the country on their summer vacations and Jane adopted “On the Road Again” as her beloved anthem.  Jane and Clair also shared their passion for travel on memorable summer adventures with their children.  Jennifer and Edmund were gifted with a teacher in their Mother and empowered by her love, encouragement, and guidance through the years.  Her wisdom helped them to be resilient and curious.

In retirement, Jane and Clair set out to see more states in their RV including a special return trip to the Alaska Highway.  Jane and Clair moved to the Tucson area in 2005.  In Tucson, Jane remained an avid reader and enjoyed many new interests.

Jane is survived by her loving husband of just shy of 54 years, Clair Kretschmann, her daughter Jennifer Kretschmann of New Orleans, LA, and her son Edmund Kretschmann of Seabeck, WA.   She was predeceased by her dear parents John and Jane Wilson, her cherished sister, Jennifer Donahue of Liverpool, NY, and her adored brother, John Wilson of Helena, MT.

To honor Jane’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests charitable donation to the American Heart Association or CROP To End World Hunger.
